Do you want to go to Jannah? If I ask this question from a Muslim, the answer is quite obvious. That is yes. Why is Jannah a destination of every Muslim and how this destination looks like? Allah knows better about it but Quran and Hadith tell us about the rewards and life of Jannah. Let's have a look at them.
The biggest reward of heaven is the blessings of Allah and what else a Muslim can hope for? Jannah is the reward of the whole life for those who spent it according to the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah. This reward is a lifetime motivation for a Muslim. Logically, it must be beautiful and mind-blowing enough to motivate a Muslim toward the right path. Quran and Sunnah's description of heaven tells us that Jannah is exactly the reward of the whole life.
Another important aspect of Jannah is that it is the eternal life of a Muslim and one should be ready to sacrifice temporary life (life of Duniya) for the sake of eternal life (life of Akhira). Quran describes heaven in various places in different manners. Every description of the Quran motivates Muslims for the preparation of upcoming life.
Quran describes Jannah as a place where you will hear only good and nothing negative. All the hatred and negativity will be removed from the hearts of Muslims.
There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. All talk will be sound and upright. (Surah Al Waq'iah 25-26)
Muslims can expect that the negativity and hate will vanish from them after entering Jannah. This life is a trial and therefore you have to hold on against evil, sin, and negativity in this world. After passing this trial, Allah will make things easier for you. In Surah Araf, verse 43, Allah says:
And We will have removed whatever is within their breasts of resentment, [while] flowing beneath them are rivers. And they will say, "Praise to Allah, who has guided us to this; and we would never have been guided if Allah had not guided us. Certainly, the messengers of our Lord had come with the truth." And they will be called, "This is Paradise, which you have been made to inherit for what you used to do."
As it is clear from the aforementioned verse that Jannah is a garden. The meaning of the Arabic word "Jannah" is "garden". It is the most common description of Jannah and almost every Muslim knows about this garden supposed for those who do good in Duniya. It is a garden full of fruits and streams of honey and milk. Verse 72 of chapter 9 (Surah At-Tawabah) describes this garden as :
Allah has promised the believers, both men, and women, Gardens under which rivers flow, to stay there forever, splendid homes in the Gardens of Eternity, and—above all—the pleasure of Allah. That is ˹truly˺ the ultimate triumph.
You might be thinking that as an individual a Muslim will enjoy all these rewards but this is not the case. In addition to individuals, families will reunite and enjoy these rewards collectively. Just imagine your life in Junnah with your family and friends. It will be a beautiful and comfortable life with your favorite people. Apart from this, you will be in the company of prophets and martyrs and those whom Allah blessed. Quran says:
And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger will be in the company of those blessed by Allah: the prophets, the people of truth, the martyrs, and the righteous—what honorable company!
You will find the best company and in addition to this, angels will come and greet you. They will welcome those who will enter Jannah. They will come and say Salam to you.
The Gardens of Eternity, which they will enter along with the righteous among their parents, spouses, and descendants. And the angels will enter upon them from every gate, ˹saying,˺“Peace be upon you for your perseverance. How excellent is the ultimate abode!”
If you are poor or rich in Duniya but you spend your life according to the will of Allah, there is plenty of food and drink for you in Jannah. You can eat and drink what you choose. Quran says:
Here is the parable of Paradise which the God-fearing have been promised: in it shall be rivers of incorruptible water, rivers of milk unchanging in taste, and rivers of wine, a delight to those that drink; and rivers of pure honey. (Surah Muhammad )
A Muslim must believe in his future that if he does good in this life, Allah will bless him with the best in the life hereafter. One has to do nothing, plenty of food is available then you can imagine a reward better than this? I think, no. But, Allah has rewards for his favorite people more than this. Jannah will be the eternal home of those who enter once. They will enjoy their eternal life in the beautiful garden.
Quran explains it in the following words:
Those who believe and do righteous deeds are the people of the Garden, and there will they abide. (Surah Al Baqra verse 82)
Above all the rewards in Jannah, reward in the form of blessings of Allah is the greater and most cherishing reward. He will have mercy upon those who lived their lives following Islam and the command of Allah. He will bestow his never-ending mercy to those living in Jannah forever.
Say: 'Shall I tell you of things better than these? For the God-fearing there are, with their Lord, gardens beneath which rivers flow; there they will abide forever, will have spouses of stainless purity11 as companions, and will enjoy the good pleasure of Allah.' Allah thoroughly observes His servants.
