Ramadan is a ( Fasting ) month of forgiveness, in which there is an end to all kinds of blessings. This blessed month has innumerable rewards for good deeds with forgiveness of sins. The virtue of staying up ( mean listen the Quran in tarawih prayer ) on the nights of Fasting increased in the last 10 days because there is Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Destiny) in it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to stay awake at night for worship in these days and during these nights he would wake up himself and wake up his family. (Sahih Bukhari 2024).
Another blessed hadith narrated by Hazrat Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said:
“Whoever prays Tahajjud in Ramadan with faith and with the intention of reward, then all his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever stays up ( mean listen the Quran in tarawih prayer ) with faith with the intention of reward, his All past sins will be forgiven. ”(Sunan An-Nisa'i 5030)
In another hadith, regarding the search for Shab-e-Qadr, it is narrated from Umm Al-Mu'minin Ayesha Siddiqah that
“The Holy Prophet used to do Itikaaf in the month of fasting ( Ramadan ) and said that in the last ten days of Ramadan, seek Shab-e-Qadr” (Sahih Bukhari 2020).
From the above ahaadeeth, it is clear that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to perform more acts of worship in the last ten days of Ramadan than in the previous twenty days. He used to stay up at night ( means listening to the Quran in tarawih prayer ) and wake up his family members for worship. It has been ordered to search for Shab-e-Qadr on the last odd nights of the last 10 days of fasting ( ramadan ). Just as fasting in Ramadan forgives past sins, so staying up on the night of Shab-e-Qadr with the intention of reward is a means of forgiving past sins.
May Allah Almighty grant us the strength to establish these blessed nights, and make the blessed night of Shab-e-Qadr the source of our forgiveness. Amen!
