Almighty Allah provided us day and night. Day for performing our physical tasks and night for getting rest. It is advised to a Muslim to go to bed early and get up early in the morning. You can observe this from the cycle of five times prayer. For example, the gap between Isha and Fajr suggests early sleep and awakening. You should offer Isha prayer and then go to bed. This habit will make you ready for morning Tahujjad and Fajjar prayer.

Islam is a complete code of life and guides us from developing a spiritual connection to daily life chores. Similarly, it provides us instructions about going to bed manners as well. Following are some of the tasks that you should perform according to Sunnah before going to bed. A few actions are related to recitation and others related to sleeping place and manner.

While reading this blog, you might feel that there are many actions and laborious to perform. But believe me, in reality, these are much easy. Let me explain this first. It’s a burden when we start a new work. Habits are never a burden but mere routines. So, you can start from the one and start making it your habit. If possible, for you, then adopt multiples at the same time. If you are already doing a few of these then start adopting those which are missing.

Perform Wudu:

Wudu is the purification of the body. It is a way of removing impurities from your body and making yourself clean to go for worship. You can read the correct way of performing Wudu here. It is Sunnah of our Holy Prophet (PBUH)to perform Wudu before going to bed. You need not perform Wudu separately. If you offer a prayer or do recitation before going to bed, you are already in the state of Wudu.

Dust your bed:

Islam highlights the importance of cleanliness and purification in every task. Similarly, the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) tells us to clean our bed before lying on it. It has scientific evidence as well. According to Scientists, it has medical advantages and prevents germs. Due to these reasons, you should dust your bed before sleep.

Recitation of Verses and Dhikr:

A study of Sunnah of our Prophet and various Hadith suggest Muslims read a few verses, Surahs and Dhikrs. Here is the list of them:
Surah Al-Mulk (This chapter of the Quran is brief. You can memorize it easily)
Al Baqarah last two verses (Short in length but powerful in reward)
3 Quls (Surah IKHLAS, Surah Falaq, An-NAS)
Dhikr (There are many easy and Short Dhikrs are available here)
Ayatul Kursi
Shahadah (Allah is my Creator and Holy prophet (PBUH) is the last Prophet of Allah).
Recite "ALLAHUMMA BISMIKA AMUTU WA AHYA "

Forgive and Forgot:

Sleep is a temporary death. Going to bed means you are getting dead temporarily. If there is the will of Allah, you will awake and vice versa. Hence, it is better to forget and forgive. Those who did wrong to you in the whole day, forgive and forget them for the sake of Almighty Allah. It will give you the reward of forgiveness. It will also strengthen your connection with Allah. Intention and Alarm for Fajr prayer and Tahajjud:

Before performing any task, we need the intention that we will perform it. In our religion, the concept of intentions has its importance. Similarly, you need intentions to perform Tahajjud and Fajr prayer. You should intend to offer these after going to bed. To remind, you should set an Alarm. The most needed factor for this is to get early to bed and early to rise for Fajr and Tahajjud.
